Here the process of laptop keyboard repair will be described. The first important thing is that laptop keyboard keys can be replaced. To do that, you should know the exact name of the laptop model, although it would be better to know the part number. Sometimes there even are differences between the components of the same laptop model. In this case, it is good to know the laptop part number or compare that part number with another part and only then buy the part. The laptop part number is printed on the part. Usually every part number has its own number, which is printed on a label or directly on the part’s surface.
How to remove the laptop keyboard. Removing the laptop keyboard is the easiest part of the laptop repair process. First of all, screws, which are holding the keyboard, are located beneath the laptop. You must have a screwdriver to unscrew them. Usually keyboard is tackled with three or four screws. The first screws, which are holding the keyboard, have to be unscrewed. After that, depending on a laptop model, the keyboard either is already removed, or there appears to be a plastic strip, holding the keyboard. After removing plastic strip, screws, holding the laptop keyboard, from one side can be removed. Usually it is necessary to pull the function key of the keyboard side up to lift it. The keyboard usually is attached to a motherboard with a wide cable.

The difficult part would be connecting the keyboard with the laptop motherboard with the wide cable. All these sort of cables are connected with special connectors. At first, the holding part in the socket has to become slide. The cable needs to become loose and only then it can be pulled out. The same is to be done, when it needs to be taken back:  sliding the cable in its place at first, then pushing it to grab the cable.
If there are just a few keys missing and the keyboard is still in a good condition, it would be reasonable to get the missing keys and put them into the keyboard. Again, as with the keyboard replacement, it would be efficient to know the part number of the keyboard, because it is very useful, while looking for the exact keys. Usually the key replacement is not difficult procedure, but the attention has to be paid. As the keys on the laptop keyboard are assembled by pushing them in their place, one or two keys can be pushed in the same way. There is a little trick with some laptops, such as well-known IBM T series models: T20 and T21. Keyboards in those laptops are attached to the motherboard not by a flexible cable but the keyboard is connected directly to the motherboard with a special connector. Sometimes that connector does not connect properly and the keyboard appears not to be working. The simple solution would be to push the keyboard down gently a few times and tighten the screws, holding the keyboard, beneath the laptop.
