If your laptop battery has developed a snag, such as it is not getting charged, then the problem might lie in the power jack. Every laptop has a power connector that is soldered to the motherboard. The power jack has a few connection points to the motherboard, which during the use of the motherboard and the constant movement of the laptop, can get loose.
A laptop power jack repair is not the most difficult operation and it can be suitably performed by anyone who can disassemble the laptop and has some soldering experience. Sometimes, you may not be able to solder back a power jack because it is broken. In such cases, you will have to find another power jack and replace the broken one. Suppose you want to do the replacement yourself. Then you will need to disassemble the laptop and for that you will need a soldering iron. It is almost always necessary to disassemble your laptop to access the power jack. We don’t know of a laptop where you can replace the power jack without disassembling it.
This guide explains how to disassemble the laptop. However, you should know that there is no universal laptop disassembling guide as the chassis and the component locations are different.
Suppose your laptop is already disassembled. The laptop power jack is usually located on the back side of the laptop. A big socket with a big round hole will definitely be the power jack.
You will have to first preheat the soldering iron to get the working temperature. Then, get some flush or soldering paste on the iron and heat the power jack’s pins one after the other, until the power jack will fall out or can be pulled out with pancetta. Then, clean up the stuff that’s left behind. The soldering points need to be clean.
Now, if the old power jack is good, simply take it out and solder it to the motherboard. But if the power jack is broken, take a new one and solder it to the board. However, remember that power jack replacement won’t always solve the problem. Sometimes, the heat from a faulty soldering point can damage PCB layers.
In such a case, you would need someone with experience to clean and fix the damaged motherboard. We know that some EasyNote power boards can develop faults in them when heat from the power jack damages their PCB layers.
There are a lot of sources from where you can buy a spare laptop power jack for repairing purposes. EBay is certainly the best option. However, the quality of the product will always be related with the price. So, if you get a cheap power jack on eBay, don’t expect it to be high quality. Another source would be various online retailers that offer laptop spares. Some eBay sellers also have separate websites of their own where they sell the same stocks as they do on eBay.
