In this guide, it will be explained how to repair Acer laptop. Generally, there is no other difference between Acer laptop and any other laptop, except one, which is the placement of the components of the laptop. Usually Acer laptop DVD drive is located on the right side. It is necessary to unscrew one screw and pull it out to access DVD drive. The hard drive of the Acer laptop is usually located beneath the chassis in the separate compartment. You have to unscrew two screws, to access it. Acer laptop memory is also located beneath the chassis and can be accessed by unscrewing a few screws that hold a big cover. Acer laptop is similar to IBM system computers, so all the tools that are used with those computers can also be used with Acer. There is much information of how to disassemble Acer laptop. The most common failures of Acer and other laptops are worn out DVD drives, failing hard disks, accidentally smashed LCD screens etc. It is not difficult to replace the LCD screen of the Acer laptops. Only a few screws have to be unscrewed and plastic has to be removed. Usually the LCD screen is connected with two wires. One of them is connected to an inverter, the other one – to a motherboard. If you have a screw-driver, you can simply replace your LCD screen by yourself, at home. If you are doing it or the first time, you can always ask someone to explain how to do it. Acer laptops use standard hard disk drives. Older Acer laptops use ATA or PATA interfaces. SATA interfaces are newer ones. Only SATA hard drives will be found in new laptops with a widescreen. Acer laptops use standard laptop memory modules, which are widely available today. There are some different types of laptop memory modules: SDRAM, DDR1, DDR2 and DDR3. Not all laptop memory types are backwards compatible. This is the reason why you should know the exact type, when you are replacing the memory of the Acer laptop. To recognize the type, it is recommended to use the MemTest for the laptop memory. This software is free and available here. It needs to be burned to a CD to use it as a bootable CD. This software boots when computer starts. Acer uses DVD drives designed especially for their company and they are not compatible with laptops from other companies. The other sorts of DVD drives may fit, but, for example, the casting still may be different. Damaged DVD or CD drives are identified by the system, when it tries to read scratched DVD or CD. Then, it cannot read the CD/DVD properly, but on the other laptop the same CD/DVD might be readable.
