To identify necessary drivers for desktop computer does not take much of an effort. We can begin by identifying the desktop computer’s video card. A video card, video adapter, graphics-accelerator card, display adapter or graphics card is an expansion card whose function is to generate and output images to a display. Many video cards offer added functions, such as accelerated rendering of 3D scenes and 2D graphics, video capture, TV-tuner adapter, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 decoding, FireWire, light pen, TV output, or the ability to connect multiple monitors (multi-monitor), while other modern high performance cards are used for more graphically demanding purposes such as PC games (source: Wikipedia).

Early cards were built with ISA slots. Then came PCI cards and now video cards are used with PCI Express slots.

How to Identify an ATI Graphic Card
Simply look at the written instructions on the card. It will be written what type the card is, such as the ATI Radeon 9250. If there are any markings such as AMD, it probably is an ATI graphics card as well because AMD has bought ATI and now gradually every ATI product is becoming AMD.
When you have the model number of the card, you could just Google it and it will find for you the place where drivers can be downloaded. It is better to use drivers that are provided by the original company through the official website. But in case the operating system doesn’t like the drivers, then you could probably go with the modified drivers from other sites.
For a Geforce graphics card, just follow similar steps as above.
In case the audio card is integrated into the motherboard, its drivers can be found on the motherboard’s chipset drivers. In that case, you will not see any additional card connected to the slots. Everything then will be on the motherboard. Motherboard chipset drivers are described below.

Audio Card Drivers
If the audio card is not integrated and is an independent card, you have to simply look on that card for instruction. Some time back, the Creative sound cards were very popular. Here, you could find, for instance, Creative Audigy with some number. This helped in the identification of the card, which further helped in getting the right drivers for the card.
There are two ways to identify card manufacturers if you are looking for their drivers. The first way is to search on the card itself for the manufacturer name—Creative, Realtek, etc—which will be followed by version numbers. This is enough information to look on the Internet for the right drivers.
The other way is to look at the actual microchips on the card and write down the numbers. Usually, there are just one or two microchips present on the card, which helps you avoid the confusion.
For audio cards that are integrated onto the motherboard, you need to check the chipset drivers. Read on for more information.

Chipset Drivers
Integrated motherboard drivers consists of drivers package of audio drivers, LAN drivers, video drivers and all additional drivers to make all other devices on the board to work properly.
In case you know your motherboard model, just go to the Internet and get the drivers from manufacturer’s website. This will come in one executable installation file.
The motherboard number can be found near the PCI slot or near the CPU (processor). It usually consists of a few letters and a few numbers.  Manufacturers must print the model name because of regulations. A few numbers from the model number identifies the manufacturer’s name.

In case there is no motherboard number, simply look at the second biggest microchip after the processor. You probably will find an Intel or VIA chip. Write down the numbers from that chip and use a search engine to find the drivers or go directly to Intel or VIA to get the drivers.
Sometimes, the necessary drivers are buried deep within the manufacturer’s website, where sometimes search engines cannot find them. Simply use a few search engines or ask a question on forums. There are a lot of good and friendly forums out there where people are helping each other out. Don’t hesitate to ask a question. But before that, make a search through the forum. Probably somebody has already asked a similar question and got an answer.
