Laptop Motherboard Repair
There is a lot of laptop repair work you can do yourself at home if you have the right tools with you.
The first common problem with laptop motherboards is with the power socket. This repair can be done just with a small screwdriver and a
soldering iron. The small screwdriver is needed for disassembling the laptop, i.e. for unscrewing the screws that hold the case. There are
various instructions available freely on the Internet on how to disassemble various laptop models, so we shall not go into that here. Just find
the laptop disassembling instructions specific to your laptop model.
The other common fault that is found in motherboards is that there is sometimes a connection loss with the RAM, and sometimes the memory might
be plain faulty. The main problem here is to be able to recognize that fault. If there is a fault with the memory, the laptop behaves
unpredictably. It might fail to start, goes into restart during boot, doesn’t beep when it is powered on and sometimes the LED lights up but
there’s nothing on the screen to see.
Some laptops have improper soldering. You may have heard about the GeForce graphics cards in laptops that weren’t soldered properly on the
motherboards. The common symptoms of this problem include elbows on laptop screen, overheating, no picture on the screen despite the laptop
starting normally and so on.
The repair of your laptop will depend on what you have decided to do. If you have a hot air gun at home, you could disassemble the laptop and
then try to heat up the graphics processor. When you do that, the connections will be resoldered. This is almost all of what you can do with your
motherboard all by yourself at home.
If there is no picture on, you can try to disassemble the laptop and check the cable connecting the laptop’s motherboard to the LCD screen. In
some cases, the cable connector may become loose and the signal doesn’t properly reach the LCD.
Once again, to disassemble your particular laptop model, you will need the specific disassembling guide for your model. You can find such
guides on the Internet. Just use Google to look for them. There are no universal laptop disassembling instructions because they are all
constructed differently. Their motherboards are also different, and even different units of the same model might have slightly different parts
depending on version modifications that may happen.
If your laptop motherboard doesn’t start despite everything you have done to repair it, then it means it needs technical help. A qualified
engineer will have to use special equipment to repair it.
There are several motherboards available on the market today. However, some of these might be used and have been disassembled previously.
