How to Set Up a Wireless Router
To set up a wireless router, you need to access its interface through a wired connection. Routers which are provided by the Internet service
providers are almost always already configured and the only one thing left to do with them is to connect them to your phone line or cable, and
after that connect it using cable or through the wireless connection.
However, if such an attempt to connect the router proves to be unsuccessful, you can read this to understand how to set it up.
Routers have IP addresses just as every device connected to the network has. Different router manufacturers use different IPs. For example,
LinkSys uses the IP 192.168.1.1. This is the default router’s IP which is used to make a connection with the router.
Let’s now connect to the router. First of all, we need a LAN cable to connect a computer to the router. With the cable, we connect the
computer’s network card with one of the ports on the router. If you are not sure which router port is for your computer, just plug the cable into
the middle of the router.
Secondly, we will go to the browser and enter 192.168.1.1 in the address field. Usually it will show us a screen like this.

You need to enter a username and password here. Usually the Internet service providers print this information in manuals or on a label on the
router.
Let say you enter the username and password. The next screen should already show the router’s configuration. On the left hand is the menu with
the router’s configuration options. The first one is the Internet WAN and a menu item labeled as Connection Type. Click on it and it will show
you the basic router’s setup. There will be information as to what IP the router has got from your Internet provider. There will be information
about DNS.
If there is no such information showing, it means that the router is not connected to the Internet service provider.
The IP address there should show a number like 82.3.115.235. If this field is blank or there are zeros in it, it means that the router
is not connected to your ISP. Then the best thing to do is to check cables and restart the router. It should be set to Get Dynamically from ISP.
This way the router will get the IP automatically from ISP.
Another thing to check is what IP the router has got on LAN or Local Area Network (LAN Setup). You already should know what IP address the
router has in LAN because otherwise you wouldn’t be browsing through the router. It is recommended here that you set to DHCP.
Wireless Port
Here is the configuration of the wireless port. The name or SSID is the name of the wireless network which generates the router. Mode g is
faster mode than b, and so we use both.
Wireless AP
It means that router will work as Wireless Access Point and anybody can connect to it with a username and password.
