How to Choose a Computer

People often ask how they should choose a computer. Now, it is necessary to mention that trying to save money while buying a computer is not always a good idea. You can try to save a little, but then you might have to compromise on the specifications and the quality of the computer. So, it really depends on what you are looking for. Today, computer systems have become cheaper and easily affordable for most of us. The differences that exist are in the specifications and the quality of their fabrication.

First of all, let’s discuss what desktop computer or laptop you would need. For games, a desktop computer is still the best choice. There are good laptops suitable for games, but they are heavy by default. The other advantage of desktop computers is that they are still faster than the laptops. They are also more suitable for overclocking.

Desktop computers are also easily upgradeable. You may have to just replace your DVD drive to upgrade it, for instance, but with a laptop you will probably have to take the whole thing apart. Desktops need you to just remove cover holding screws, then the cover, disconnect the part from the motherboard, unscrew the holding screws and then take it out. However, with laptops, depending on the model, you will need to first remove about 10 screws underneath the laptop, then remove the upper casing, then remove even the motherboard and then access the processor. So, the laptops become a good choice for traveling people whose working places are mobile, such as students or managers with busy work schedules. And if you want to play games on your laptop as well, you need to choose a dedicated graphics card. Laptops are expensive, but they are worth the money you spend on them.

Special laptop models are available for business users. These are comfortable laptops; you could work on them all day.

The one factor you have to think about when choosing a laptop is its specification. Think about their RAM memory, the size of their hard disk, their processor speed, etc. If you are buying a new desktop computer, you don’t have to worry as much because they are always sold with the latest specifications. They also run with the latest operating systems and have plenty of storage space.

But if you buy a secondhand computer, it is good to check whether or not it has enough storage space. For instance, the storage space could be half of what you find in the latest computers. The processor speed might also be just half than in the latest computers, and you will be able to run the operating system without problems. It is possible to upgrade the operating system and run it without problems in future. You also have the advantage of high specifications for your future years. For gamers, there is a standard to buy desktop computers or laptops with dedicated video, or in other words, a graphic card.

There won’t be an agreement about which brand you ought to buy. All manufacturers have various models anyway that you can choose from. Dell, for instance, has over a 100 models itself. There is a lot of variety, but when a new model is introduced in the market, one cannot say how it will behave when it is really being exploited. For instance, a very well-known laptop manufacturer once made a laptop with small heatsinks, which lead to dust gathering on them. Not to mention, this model didn’t become any popular. When this laptop started getting exploited, people started complaining about overheating.

The best way is to choose a model and then do some research on the Internet about any problems that the model might have had. People with laptops often use Internet forums and post their experiences there. They also post good descriptions of their problems and solutions for them. The forums are a good source of information about any computer-related topic.
