17 Inch Laptops

17 inch laptops are designed with a view to replace desktops. Their big screen does make them less portable than other laptops and they tend to consume more energy because of their larger screens, but they are in demand among people who like larger viewing areas on their screens. However, the battery life in a 17 inch laptop will be shorter than in smaller laptop screen models.

Yet, the bigger screen is definitely an advantage. The space available inside the laptop for all the different components is more as well. System performance is also quite laudable. Today, almost all laptops come with a widescreen, which enables you to enjoy movies and even TV shows with vibrant picture quality.

Some 17 inch laptops already have a tuner installed in them and are also equipped with remote controls. These remote controls are quite useful when you are watching a video on your laptop—they help you to adjust volume and color and you can even change channels if you are watching TV shows.

We need to mention here that the brightness of the videos can also be adjusted through video card settings. This adjustment will only apply to the movie or clip that is played with media players on the laptop. For the Windows Vista OS with an nVidia graphic card, you have to first right-click on Desktop, then Personalize in the menu that appears. Click on Display Settings and go to Advanced Settings. Find a tap with a description that is similar to GeForce Go 6600 and click on Start nVidia Control Panel. This will open a new window. Find the Video and Television menu item there and click on Adjust Video Color Settings. It will show a window with a few controls to adjust the brightness and gamma of the laptop. You can see all the changes happening in real time and hence you know what you are doing. Click on OK. The changes you make will affect only media players.

17 inch laptops are great as media centers. With Microsoft releasing operating systems with media center features, laptops have turned out to be better multimedia devices. You can watch movies and video clips on them, and you can also listen to radio, receive Internet radio, edit multimedia material and record TV shows, etc. You can do all of this quite easily with your multimedia-ready laptop.
